Cane and Rinse Podcast

One of the podcast/game sites that I frequent, where you can get together with a great bunch of guys to play online games with were the Gamerdorks. I recommended this place for everyone to go and meet new people for fun and friendly online gaming.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end sometimes. But from the ashes a new site and show as arised from the guys of the old Gamerdorks. Leon, Jay of GD and (new to me)comer Tony are your heads up guys.
I encourage anyone who enjoys online games, whether it be competitive, co-op or some one on one to head on over to the website and join the group. Sign up in the forums, meet new people from around the world and enhance your online experiences. Great fun to be had by all, you won't be disappointed.

Battle (Hypno) Toads
X-men Destiny First Impressions
The opening sequence has it done in a comic books style drawing with very limited animation, it doesn't look too good, but what ever, its just the beginning. Lets just jump right in.
The environment and levels are boring and dull and just doesn't look good. The map textures are stretched and blurry. You know sometimes, when a new level loads up and your waiting for the textures on certain buildings or items or even costumes to load in. So you get that blurry look on everything, well it all looks like that, except crisp sharp good looking textures never load in. So either its broken or that's as good looking as it gets.
You get to choose between 3 characters each with its own story and 3 different powers. All of which play very similar to each other. One doesn't have an advantage over the other besides one looks different.
Then you are given two skill trees, one for the main power you just choose and one for items that you find around the levels. Such as where the other X-men come into to play, but I was dissappointed with this system. I was thinking that you could follow a certain x-men or brotherhood and you would grow based off what character you wanted as a mentor. Much like how DCU works.
But its no where near as deep as that. Its simply offensive, defensive and I forget the last slot, but you get a X-gene called Juggernaut Offensive. Which is " Add more power to your punches". IF you own two of his sets, then it gets a upgrade of more power, it you own 3 of the set, then its even more powerful and so on and so fourth.
So it really has nothing to do with interacting with characters to progress character growth, its simply finding items around the level and doing challenge rooms( beat 20 enemies in 2 min)
Then there's the costumes which again act just like the item slots. Except the power of the costume is only unlocked if you have all 3 items and have them equipped at the same time. Its a pretty boring skill tree.
Of course to unlock all these extra bits you need XP, which you get from killing enemies. But there is a major flaw in this. Some of the time you have a X-men or Brotherhood fighting along side you. So what ever enemies they kill, you don't get an XP from them. Lets say that you were having trouble with one of the sub-bosses, you finally get his life down to the last bar and he knocks you down. At the same time your X-men buddy comes over and gives him the final blow and he dies. Well now you don't get the XP for all that hard work you just did nor do you get any life orbs they he/she may have dropped upon their death.
This is one time where you need precious XP to upgrade all your stuff and your teammates are hogs. Like that guy that you play a co-op game with and he runs grabbing all the items before anyone else. Its really annoying, it makes battles more about luck than strategy. Running back and assessing the situation becuase your getting pummeled to maybe take out a stragler here and there to get some health is now punishable by you team mates jumping in and killing whats left over leaving you out in the cold with no health. I guess its one of the few times where people complain that your AI teammates are useless, well here, they aren't useless, they get the job done, but it leaves the player high and dry.
The fighting is pretty dull, a very limited move set and I don't mean something a dozen moves or so. Try 2 moves to start, a punch and jump punch. I'm currently 3 hrs into the game and i have 5 moves. No grabs, no special animations for finishers, nothing. Its pretty sad.
Then you have the conversation set up. Ehen I first used it I thought I had to give a response to what the character was saying, but its not as indepth as that. It really is, click A,B,C and the character will give a blurb about each. In the end, its a straight forward choice to be bad(brotherhood) or be good(X-men) Again, I thought there be more than that. Worse of all, you CAN'T SKIP CONVERSATIONS. Is this a hard thing to do? put in a skip button? Its annoying, especially if you die and you have to go through the whole conversation again.
Being a part of the X-men world, doesn't do a good job making you feel like your part of it. Instead, its more feel likes your on the side lines, looking in while you do your own thing. So the comic book geek in me that enjoys the fact that "yeah, this game may be bad, but I am enjoying playing my favourite characters" is lost in this game. Instead I play generic hero number 2 with generic power B, while Ice man is in the background blending in the with enemies and feels more like a set piece off in the distance than an actual partner.
That's where the game stands right now, I was thinking in the beginning that "sure this game may not be that bad" but for someone like me who enjoys the X-men universe, I was thinking that interacting with their world and being an integral part of it somehow would make up for the downside of the game. But that's just not the case, I don't feel apart of the world and it doesn't feel like an X-men game.
I guess I have to compare it too when the first X-men movie came out and it was pretty good. Then you got the TV show "X-factor" to watch at home and it just doesn't feel like the world of X-men.
So if you are a hardcore fan of X-men, would you enjoy this game more? Absolutely NOT!! It does a piss poor job of making you feel part of their world. Instead its more of a game based on the X-men than feeling like being an X-men. I'm going to finish the game, cause I finish all games I buy, regardless of how bad they are.(excluding - Sonic- where he trys to get it on with human female in a grassy field-WTF?!?)
Do NOT buy this game brand new. Instead wait a couple of months for the price to go down. Because I know if I read this or was told this by someone else that the game is not that good, I would still be interested in the game and would probable still want to buy it becuase it IS the X-men Universe. But let me tell you know, it does NOT feel like an X-men game and if you are going to buy, wait as long as you can to get the game as cheap you can.
Here's hoping the game picks up somehow and gets better towards the end. But until then, this feels like a shitty movie tie-in game from Activision, the King of piss poor quality games.
I'm not posting any pictures to go along with this article cause that's how the game feels, dull and uninteresting.

X-men Destiny Review - Where Is IT?!?

I have to admit I am a sucker for super hero games. I even went out and purchased this game yesterday and its by Activision too, so that should tell you that I really was excited about this game.
I have yet to play it so I figured I go read some online reviews from some of the more popular game sites. But I can't find any, NONE!! zip , zero, nothing.
Don't most gaming sites have the reviews up the same day of launch or at least the next day??
This doesn't sit well with the game being good. My thoughts are if the developer(Activision) knows the game is a stinker, they probable didn't give review copies to all the review sites. Which means they have to wait for release date to get the game themselves, then they have to play through them which takes time to do.
So if I had to take a stab and what happened, then I have to say that this game is going to be a sorry piece of shit that I already sunk my money into it. Oh well, I guess I give it a try tonight and see if I enjoy it or not.
Here's hoping for the best or if Activision screwed me over yet again.
Pokemon Diamond Cured My OCD.....sort of?

For 3 days straight while sitting on the couch with my leg up in a sling I watched netflix and played Pokemon Diamond on my Nintendo DS.
Needless to say that game can break anyone of their OCD of gotta catch them all. The last time I played a pokemon game, it was pokemon blue and I did indeed catch them all and level them up to their final forms.
I tried to do the same thing with Diamond and quickly realized that I would need to be layed up for months to do that. There are a buttload of pokemon and I found myself not caring about catching all the different pokemon after a while.
So untill I go back to the game and finish it, the pokemon moon looms over me.

My 25th Platinum - Resistance 3

Every single trophy for R3 is offline. I guess they listened to the fans regarding R2, when they complained that getting the final trophy by getting 10,000 kills online was a little excessive. So instead of dumbing them down for those people, they removed them all together. Which I am totally fine with. I have to admit that most games that have online trophies are pretty insane to get. Mainly due to going up in ranks and reaching the high levels requires 20-30 hrs of online play.
I was disappointed with R3 online, with the lag issues and it feeling very COD arcadey. I prefer a slower pace online FPS. When I say slower, I mean in regards to movement, I rather get a kill based on skill rather than who can outrun each other in circles the first.
Overall, this game wasn't too hard to platinum. The ones that are going to give you trouble are the Juggler and Medusa trophy.
The Juggler you got to freeze, poison and catch fire one enemy at the same time and do it 4 times. The other one is to freeze 5 Grim's at the same time and make them explode all at once with the cryogun secondary function.
Again, I went to the Internet to find help and again I end up finding what works on my own by trying things that don't work that people propose. I'll do a more detailed post of exactly what I did to get these, because alot of these videos leave out details that can make these trophies really annoying to get, to downright easy if you know where and what to use.
With that nonsense outta the way and beating it on super hard, I got my 25th Plat. Its been awhile since I got one of these. Getting old.
Getting Drunk With Pokemon

I posted awhile back about video game inspired drinks. Well I decided to stop looking at these things and give some a try and make them myself.
The 3 I tried were the Pokemon inspired drinks, specifically, the water guy one. Blastoise, etc, etc.
Here's the recipe again for a refresher.
Squirtle, Wartortle, Blastoise (Pokemon Shot and Cocktails)
Ingredients:
Squirtle-
1/3 shot spiced rum
1/3 shot coconut rum
1/3 shot blue curacao
Wartortle-
1/2 shot spiced rum
1/2 shot coconut rum
1/2 shot blue curacao
Fill with Mountain Dew Voltage
Blastoise-
1 Squirtle
1 Wartortle
1 shot light rum
Fill with Mountain Dew Voltage
It cost just under $50 to get all the stuff for it, mostly because I couldn't find small 12oz flask and instead had to by the 26 oz bottles of it. That and booze in Canada is taxed to hell, so it can get expensive.
First the shot itself,"Squirtle". This was great, sweet and spicy, but more like a tropical spice. Very tasty indeed and because they go down so smooth, they can seriously get you messed up if your not careful.
Next one up was Wartortle, which had the same ingredients but add blue mountain dew. But I couldn't find blue mountain dew, so I had to go with regular dew and it turned my drink from a nice blue color to a greenish swamp color. It still tasted great, but it wasn't blue. Again a tropical drink taste and flavour.
Finally was Blastoise, which was simply two Wartortle's combined. For those people who like to drink in excess.
Overall, I had 3 squirtles, 2 wartortles and 1 blastoise and I was nice and cozy before the night was out. It tasted great and I sure would like to give more of these a try when I get some free time and money. I recommend trying some out for yourselves and see how it all goes. While I Was Out

Sorry, haven't posted in a while, I've been recovering from knee surgery, so sitting in-front of a computer was not possible for a few days. But rest assured that Today I'll be back in full swing of things as today.
While I was out, I'll repost a bunch of stuff I've been doing while layed up on a couch for 3 days straight. Lets just say I've had my fill of pokemon.
And only a few days left on the PSN card giveaway, up to 10 so far and good luck to all.

DC Universe Free to Download and Play

This is amazing, let alone no monthly subscription, but the game itself is free? Wow!! that's awesome! I will be giving this a go for sure now. But I have a few concerns or questions? If anyone has the answers to any of these, please let me know.
But first, click here to see the 3 levels of subscription that you can get.
It has a 3 levels of subscription, with each level unlocking more things up to $14.99 per month, so they haven't gotten rid of pay per monthly completely, it just now is limited to paying subscribers, which I understand.
But If I still wanted to buy the disc, as oppose to download it from the store. Does that mean I would have access to the premium content?
If I did indeed buy the disc and it comes with a 1 month trial. Does that now mean, I have access to the legendary content for a month?
I'm more than happy to put money into a game to access more stuff if I like it. I just didn't want to spend the monthly membership because I never know how much time I can put into a game.
But despite all that, its still great news for a gaming community. I can't wait to give it a try.

PSN Gift Card Giveaway Contest

To celebrate getting a new dog,"Tank" today. I'm in a giving mood. So lets giveaway a $20 PSN card. I'm gonna do something a little more interesting this time as oppose to my usual" If your interested, just post on this article" rules.
Something to give back to the regular people who visit Pacroid and not some random dude/dudette who surfs the web looking for free stuff.

Its still pretty easy all the same. So if you are interested in winning a 20$ PSN card. All you have to do, is post on this article with a answer too this question, "Name a game that I listed in Pacroid as one of my favorite or worst video games". There are multiple answers and pretty easy to answer I think.
Depending on the response I get, I'll do a draw with the correct answers either in a week or two, Again depending on the response.

Plants Vs Zombies - PSN

I knew this game was good from all the previous talking about it from most everyone. But I have to say that I think this game is in the running for "Game of the Year" for me.
WOW!!.. I am loving this game. At first I thought it was just a standard RTS that wasn't too hard and fun to look at(If you like cartoony- which I do)

But after I finished the single player campaign, the game really opens up and shows all the extra stuff avaible. From the puzzles, mini games, survival mode, your garden, the Wise Tree, Your leader boards house, getting money and buying items which enhances each one of these.
There is so much in this game its down right ridiculous. Just when you think, you've seen everything in the game, there's more to be had. And sure, I've seen alot of these modes in other games, but this game handles it like a whole new game. Heck, the game could have just contained one of these things and been a game on its own.

I've played Vs mode and Co-op mode with my son and its fantastic fun. Its easy to learn, easy to play. I mean I've played pixel junk monsters and savage moon and I've struggled getting used to how the game works. But with Plants Vs Zombies, it does a great job of slowly introducing you to new game mechanics and it works flawlessly.
Its has to be one of the best put together games I've played on the PSN and for any disc for that matter. I got it for free for being a Plus member, but holy cow, this game is so worth the full price and more.
IAN!!!..this is one zombie game that you have to play. The demo alone, just doesn't do it justice. Again, last night I had one of those moments where I kept playing and before I knew it, it went from 10:00 pm to 3:00am.

I'm opting to play this over Resistance 3 right now and I'm enjoying the hell outta it. I can't recommend this game enough. Its fantastic.
One thing I noticed in the trailer and its not in the game are the white sunflowers. In the game you get energy from happy little sunflowers, but in the trailer I see white ones. So I have no clue to what they are? but again, there's still so much I have yet to play and do, so perhaps I just need to unlock it?

Resistance 3 - PS3
I'll make this brief seeing as I talked quite a bit about this game over the past month. But now that I finished the game, put some time into online, I think its fair to make a statement about it overall. The gameplay of R3 single player campaign and story wise is best one out of the bunch, hands down. There is no complaints here, fun to be had by all.
Playing the single player campaign online in co-op has some issues. I don't know if I did something wrong, but when me and Beatfreaker finished the game(on hard) I got the "completed campaign mode" trophy and Jay did not. So did we do something wrong? cause that sucks ballz, BIG TIME. So if you want your complete campaign trophy, your gonna have to play it by yourself first to get that trophy. Where as co-op comes off feeling like a friend jumping into your game to help rather than being a part of it.
This also comes in in the cut scenes. Where I could see everything that was happening. Jay's cut scenes were 10-15 sec behind mine. So when it ended on my part, his would cut off even before they finished playing. So often times I had to fill in Jay what was happening cause the story cut off short for him. That also sucks.
The last thing was, no clear indication of where to go next. There was a handful of times that what we had to do or where do we go just had us baffled. Often times, it was because a enemy was still hidden somewhere in the level, poor placement of doors/ladders, or the AI partner getting stuck in walls/doors. It was annoying for sure.

Online, the more I play it, the more I am disliking it for one reason and one reason only. That is the LAG!!
Every time I play online, I am fighting two things. My opponents and the lag. One guy was camped up in the corner sitting on a stair railing. So it should have been a easy kill for me. Instead, I put him in my sights and let loose. There is bullets hitting him and blood shooting from his corpse, but hes not moving. So my first thought was " the guy is frozen or has disconnected and his character is still locked in the game?"
But nope, the next thing I know, hes standing on the stairs to my left, shooting me and I end up DEAD.

It makes using your long range weapons useless, snipers and marksmen guns are downright unusable online. Infact, much of the online gameplay is pure luck, luck that you better hope that you arn't lagging when you meet a opponent. The more chances than not, it lags and die, often times I don't even know how, and then I see a guy lag across the screen in front of me.

I check my other online games and they all work fine. So its not my connection, its the game itself and to be honest. Its a game killer for me, I don't want to play online when its all going to shit with Lag. Insomniac has to fix this and asap.

OK, I guess this wasn't brief, but they are all important points I think. Overall, I enjoyed everything in the game, the unlocks, the upgrades, the game play. But there's also alot going on, that is really annoying. I must say that I am a little disappointed my play session. It was enjoyable, but most certainly, not one of the best co-op experiences I've played.
This video shows online, but not the version I'm playing, heck this guy can see everything. Mine just has guys skipping all over the place, its horrible. Jump to 55 sec to see it start playing. The other thing is that the people hes playing against seem more like bots. I say that cause most people you meet head to head, just dance left to right really quickly which I hate in online games.

Rebuilding Your PS3 Database - Increase Performance
So before I wrote about it, I wanted to give it a try and see for myself if this indeed does work or if it will mess up your PS3.
In the end, 3 of us including the friend who told me, all did the steps to rebuilding our PS3's database.
Does it work? Damn straight it does, its great. You will notice just the speed at which you can select around the menus on the store, trophy syncing and online freezes. Its safe, easy to do and the walk through of how to do this is a step by step process that even NON-techie guys like me can follow.
I don't know why this isn't a predominant part of everyday use that is more talked about. I guess you can compare it to defragging your PC.
If you have worries about losing any info of any sort, then Don't!. The only thing it gets rid of are your messages, so if you have info stored in your message folders, write it down somewhere cause rebuilding your database will delete them.
But EVERYTHING else, will be fine, your themes, saves, DLC, music, etc. So far I've had 3 friends do it and we all say the same thing, "It works"
Just click HERE to follow the steps for yourself and increase the performance of your PS3 today.

Gearbox Wants Your Help With Borderlands 2

The studio gearbox set up a survey for people who have played the first borderlands, to help them with feedback about what they liked about the first game so they can listen to the fans thoughts and incorporate it into borderlands 2.
So if you played the first one, Click HERE to go to the survey page and fill it out. It takes a couple of min and its nice to see studios do this sort of thing.
Gearbox, for me , is turning out to be one of my favorite studios. Duke doesn't count...that game was a mess long before gearbox tried to fix it. Good on them for having the ballz to pick that mess up and try to piece it together.
Pacman Blanket

Resistance 3 - First Impressions

I base this off one game of multiplayer and then maybe 2 hrs and a bit of single player campaign in co-op mode with Beatfreaker over at portable soldier.
Complaints? - YES
Positives? - YES
Got the game and it literally took 30-45 min to set the game up. What do I mean, well the game had to install to the HD, which took the longest. After the game installed and you rebooted, there was a 650 MB update. Which took another 10-15 min to download and install. After that, I still had to quit the game and go to the PS store to redeem my code for the online pass.Sooooooo, after all that, you can finally boot up the game and start playing. A long process, but once its done, its done. I guess its no different than setting it up on a PC with the downloads and installs?

While I waited for Jay to do the same thing on his end, I figure I give multiplayer a try. Unlike the beta, its not as fast, its slowed down quite a bit. Which I like, so its all good. But I did notice quite a bit of lag, which was a annoying and I hope they fix this. I was enjoying myself, running around and shooting people. But with 1 min left to the match, the game hard locked on me. So I had to reboot my system.
Start it back up and go back into the game and it didn't keep any of my stats. All my kills and ribbons that I got during the match were gone. So I hope they fix that aswell.
By now, We were ready to start the single player campaign in co-op mode. We are playing it on hard and so far, I die alot. Jay will get his revive a teammate 20 times in no time. I think I revived Jay twice where I was revived at least 6-7 times.

When the game starts and the cut-scenes begin. Jay's cut-scenes starts 10-15 sec behind me. So when my cut scene is done playing it automatically goes into the game which results in Jays cut-scene stopping with a message that says," Second player as skipped cut-scene". Which I didn't do, it automatically jumps into the game regardless if Jays cut-scene is done or not. So it makes hard to see the whole story on his end, when you are missing 10-15 sec of each clip. Please fix this.
The other thing are the load times in between matches, it seems to vary. Some times, its decent enough. This one time, we thought the game locked up on us. BUT, we could still talk to each other and exit to the XMB. But the screen was black with no loading indication what so ever. It got to the point where I said,"well, lets just quit here and start up again another night". When I said that, the game starts up. So I don't know if its because we are playing online co-op or it this indeed is part of the single player campaign load?
But once you are in the game, all that is forgotten, its fun, it looks great and is a blast to play with a partner. Alot of fun, and like a good book that you can't put down and want to see what happens in the next chapter. This game is just like that. I want to push the story along and see what's in store next. A new enemy, a new area location, its all very satisfying.

So far in the game, there's annoying bits and good bits. Until I play more and see how it all gets flushed out, I will reserve my final thoughts on it.
