GhostBusters: The Video Game - PS3

GhostBusters! Is it good? .................Yes!
Lately I have been noticing that I have been getting games just based on the fact that, "THIS" is the next new game that is a must play for gamers. I mean when I first saw killzone 2, I didn't want it. I got it because all the rave about it, that its a MUST play game. Now Infamous and Prototype are today's big games. But you know what, I am just not interested in playing them. So I'm not going to get it just because its the next big game that's out this month.

Unlike Ghostbusters, that I got because I was really looking forward to it, ever since I heard about it years ago. I really wanted this game and couldn't wait to play it. Its these types of games that I really enjoy and will keep me busy until the next game comes out that I want to play.

What can I say about Ghostbusters to make it short and sweet. To the average gamer, this is just another shooter but your weapons are proton packs and the enemies are mostly ghost. Really nothing spectacular about it. BUT, for a GHOSTBUSTERS FAN!!.. holy shit, its a shooter where your weapon is a proton pack that you can use to trap ghost. HOLY COW!!

Added the bonus of the entire cast of the movie have come back to lend their voice talent to the game. Written by Harold Ramis and Dan Akroyd which say this is their version of Ghostbusters 3. Coupled with all the original ghost and places from the original film, running around the library, the hotel, makes this a MUST HAVE for Ghostbuster fans.

The first time you get to shoot the proton pack and capture a ghost and wrangle them into the trap....WOW!!..I don't have anything bad to say about it, its just feels right, very well done. If they had a bonus level where all you had to do was wrangle ghost, I think I would be very happy.

There are certain things in games that one looks forward to doing when done well. Mine were being able to ignite and turn off a lightsaber for the first time. Extracting Wolverines Claws, in and out, in and out, transforming from a car to a robot and firing a proton gun. There is just something very satisfying when blasting a neutron beam across the room.

I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't played the game , just that, IF you are a fan of Ghostbusters, then this is a MUST play. If not, then...sure, you may enjoy the 8 hrs you get from this.

I was also surprised that it has multiplayer co-op. But once you play it, its not really co-op. If you are competing against other people online, ITS NOT CO-OP!! Most of the trophies for online have to do with coming in first in a bunch of challenges, but in order to do that, you are competing with 4 other people online to see who can trap the most ghost, even if it means stealing a wrangled ghost from another teammate.

It was my 3rd match online and I came across 2 assholes in this one particular game. The guy who I choose to play has was Winston. Well, let the racial and assholery commence. It was one of the worst experiences I had online is a super long while. Not the gameplay, just these 2 assholes who I would say were probable between the ages of 16-20 and male. They didn't shut the fuck up, Fag this, N****ER that, your mother, your sister, you name it and they were just throwing out some of the most abusive stuff that you hear about when playing online. It was horrible, I finished out the match, and said "You assholes are the reason that online gaming gets a bad name"

I turned off the game and didn't play it for 2 days, it left that bad a taste with me. I don't like that sorta shit, fun and games sure, but when you are assholes just to be assholes, It's then, that I don't mind running you down in the middle of street and then stopping to make sure my tires didn't get punctured from your bones. But these things happen online, and the only advice I can give, is don't talk back and just quit the game. You can make a abuse report, but does it even matter?!

Anywho, besides all that shenanigans, The game is a great game. More so for me, because I am a super fan of Ghostbusters. I'll say it again, if you are a fan, GET THIS!!!!

9/10

The trailer is even more of a movie trailer than a video game.

I found that a lot of people buy/play games for the wrong reasons. They always look for "the next big thing" instead of what they really want to play. Instead of forging their own satisfaction in their gaming experience, they allow others to dictate what they should or should not feel. This is the same reason why I found it appalling when people play a game with a walkthrough guide or achievement list next to them during their first play through.

It's a bit disappointing to hear that there is no co-op because it would be a blast to play the story mode with a friend. There seems to be a lot of love put into the creation of this game. I will definitely be buying it in the near future.

That bad online experience you describe is the reason why I normally don't play games online with randoms. You never know who you will get and for the most part - especially on X-Box Live - they consist of arrogant jerks who are half-racist/half-brain dead in their teens and twenties. It always makes me sad when I encounter them because this world should have been a better place by now... But anyway, great review.

Thanks. Yeah, there's not much one can do about those type of people online.

I have a friend who who refuses to play online because people just rag on him about his accent.

Its shitty stuff, but it comes with the territory I suppose.

I think the Wii version has a two player mode. I've been back and forth on which one to buy, the Wii version or the 360 one.

I thought it was pretty cool that they used two different games, instead of just knocking the graphics down a few notches. They even used two different studios!

The Wii one is more cartoony (which defiantly appeals to the animator side of me,) and has more puzzles than the 360. You play both or just the 360 version?

PS: I refuse to play online too. Not because of my accent, but because I don't want to pay another $100 for a gizmo to go online, not to mention a subscription, F-you microsoft. (I think you talked about that in a previous post)

When it comes to which version to get. Its totally preference, both have great gameplay.

I read that the 360/PS3 version tell the story better and the graphics are not bad. They arn't WOW,but they arn't bad either.

To be honest, I prefer the Ps3 version for the more realistic Proton gear/traps/streams, etc.

But just go online to ign, or gamespot, and read an indepth review of the versions.
