Is This the Straw That Broke The Camels Back?

If you follow any gaming news, that more than likely you have all heard that Gamestop have opened all new PC copies of Dues Ex and removed a online code that comes with the game.

A official statement by gamestop says,

Regarding the Deus Ex: Human Revolution OnLive Codes: We don't make a habit of promoting competitive services without a formal partnership. Square Enix packed the competitor's coupon with our DXHR product without our prior knowledge and we did pull these coupons. While the new products may be opened, we fully guarantee the condition of the discs to be new. If you find this to not be the case, please contact the store where the game was purchased and they will further assist.

So after they have opened a brand new copy of the game and remove the code, they then turn around and sell it back to you at full price.

Legally, it seems like its all still up in the air whether they had to right to do so or not. So however if plays out in the legal field is yet to be seen.

But it is crystal clear how it is being currently portrayed by gaming consumers. It is a resounding dick move on Gamestops part. People/gamers are not happy with them doing this. It is well documented that Gamestop does some pretty shadey things, even myself have had encounters with them.

But this one takes the cake. Gamestop saying that Square didn't let them know is kinda silly. Its an agreement between Square and Onlive. Not the stores, gamestop is not the only place that sells games. Any store as the right to refuse to sell something, so why didn't gamestop just do that?! Why not sell the game all together?!

I will tell you why, becuase they are greedy, they still want the sales. Too many times in the past I've asked for a copy of such and such a game and they give me a opened copy?!? WTF!!?? I would like a new one please, not some opened copy. I would also like a bag of chips, do you happen to have a opened bag of chips back there, cause I am really weak and can't open them on my own. If you do , that be great. In fact I will pay more, since you already saved me the time of opening it.

WOW!!, these guys are down right deceitful. If this doesn't stop you from buying and supporting gamestop, then nothing will. For Shame Gamestop..for shame.

I'm not surprised at this. they do that with the "new" games they tend to sale and charge you the new prices for them. It's total bs and I have had my encounters with the employees there trying to be smart asses only to make them look like fools. I have no other place to buy games in the moment so I will have to deal with it....

On one hand you do have American capitalism, where in they can buy and sell anything they want. On the other you have the consumers who are stupidly continuing to purchase games from them and leaving them in business.

How does a company with such a public perception of pure evil stay in business, and somehow don't get the Feds investigating them for monopolistic dealings?

Fortunately there ARE other game stores around here. Hell I'll even buy my games from Walmart before I step in a Game$lop ever again.

I wonder if anyone has ever protested them? Sadly all the ones around me are in shopping malls/plazas so you would be not be allowed anywhere within sight of them without getting trespassing.

This news makes me sad.

I recently did buy Bioshock 2( still in the wrapping-brand new) for 10$ at EB Games. I think that's probable the only way they will make sales.

Heck, who can turn down a new copy of bioshock 2 for 10 bucks.

Gamestop is pretty shady. I still remember my hubby buying my NEW borderlands game in a black box with no cover and no instructions, I was like "what is this?" I am really picky with my games, when I want them new I want them N-E-W.

On the other hand my hubby bought a copy of Deus ex and he got his code. I guess since he went right when the store was opening it didn't give them a chance to.

Lol after reading Kelli's comment I went searching for updates on this story. I came across the best comment ever about it: "HAHA, that's like Best Buy taking all the USB cables out of all the electronics they sell, because Best Buy sells USB cables too."

Made me laugh so hard my coworker came over to see what I was looking at.
