So, is this AC 3 or 2.5? Hmmmm .... in my opinion it's 2.5 because it picks up exactly where AC2 ended and keeps going with the same characters and storyline. Not really vital information, but satisfies my borderline OCD need to cathegorize everything. :P
Anyway, for the longest time I gave no attention to that game because I thought that it was ONLY multiplayer, which I don't play. But I was happily wrong and there is a hefty chunk of single-player action.
Apart from a few tweaks and additions, the game is moslty the same as AC2. So if you liked it, you'll be familiar going into AC:B. If not, you might as well skip it.
I did like it but the story was weak. It felt more like a series of events that just pop up suddenly and you deal with it.
Best part: doing a stealht double-kill from above. And yelling DEATH FROM ABOVE!!!! everytime never got old. :D Gathering assassin followers is fun as well, sending them to do your dirty business. I enjoyed them popping out at will out of unreachable spots. :D
The ending doesn't leave a doubt that an AC3 (or some other tagline) is at least planned. I hope it won't be too long!
So that's another game finished. :D and I have almost all the flags and treasure so I will likely revisit it to get all of those. The only trophies that I won't get are the multiplayer ones, which annoys me that they aren't separate.
I won't talk about the multiplayer, since I have no interest in it and will probably never even enter it. It's not my cup of tea.
Been on holidays for little less than a week now. Just a quick note that I probable won't be updating much over the holidays until I get back on the 4th. So a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Pacroid.
This probable explains ALOT about the new uncharted movie. The director, David O. Russsel cast Marky Mark and his funky bunch as Nathan Drake and changed the story of uncharted because......because he can.
Here is a clip of a fan grilling the director about his choice for Nathan Drake. Which he is meet with assholery, Who is this Nathan Fillion" "If you want to cast a nobody" " You stood up for your boy".
This Guy "David O. Russel" is a douche. Infact I think he is giving that Washington guy who is trying to sue Rockstar games a run for the money in who can be the biggest douche award.
I have all confidence that this movie will be on par with Max Payne and that dumb ass national treasure movie. This movie is gonna suck and it's unfortunate that it is being called Uncharted.
Yes, it's true. I finished it! After having started it a year ago, I buckled down and stuck to it. It's not that it's a bad game, it's a very enjoyable game. I just got distracted by other shiny things.
Good things about the game for me are nit-picky details:
- Not every window is lit at night. Which makes sense. Why open-world games insist on lighiting every rooms in beyond me. I liked that.
- NPC people walk at different speeds. Some people walk normally, some walk faster with determination, some have a jaunty saunter. It give credibility to them, where usually everyone walks at the same speed and is just a mass of moving blocks.
- People come out of buildings, knock on doors, stop to talk to each other. Again, gives more believability. Because I feel these games are about immersion. Like the holo-deck.
- Running over nazis with my car and hearing the thump. No guilt about it whatsoever. Not so much when I would accidently bump a civilian, escpecially during high-speen chase scenes. Those make me feel really bad. I'd sometimes stop to see if they would get up. Some did sometimes.
- Shooting nazis. Who wouldn't. The splurts of blood were nicely animated and satisfying.
- The explosions were nicely done. It was very satisfying to watch those balls of blazes go up and the target crumple in a massive heap of junk.
- The story was fun. A lot of over-the-top action set pieces.
- Jumping from the top of the Eiffel Tower. Yeah, you die but you fall for sooooooo looooooong. Thrilling. :P
- Art direction is nice. The stark black and white nazi occupied quarters are gloomy and hard edged. And the liberated neighbourhoods are lively and coloured. The textures are a little bit blurry and spotty in places though. :S
- Punching cows. They just don't react, until they completely burst apart in a juicy spray of blood and cuts. Made me laugh every time.
Not so good things:
- The climbing was disjointed. Sean is not the nimbles of climbers. Which makes sens in the real world, but makes scaling buildings a long and slow series of button mashing.
- There is WAY too much stuff to destroy. I finished the game and there were still about 50% of destructable targets on the map. It was dotted with white!
- Sadly, the story feels truncated. It finished kind of abruptly and flat. This game brought Pandemic's demise, sadly and it shows in it's rough unfinished edges.
- The French accents are TERRIBLE!!! lol. It was kind of amusing though. I speak french, so I know bad accents.
- Sean can disguise himself with a killed nazi's uniform to infiltrate. Except that he only puts on the top part of it ... leaving his cargo pants and big boots. Now, why stop there? It looks very obvious and a bit silly.
So in essence, the game was fun and I'm glad I came back to it. It's sadly underrated and deserved a better fate.
I couldn't wait....the same day that my Christmas vacation began I bought X-men Arcade on the PSN. I couldn't do it...those pixels staring at me in Xmen form with all the glory that was the 1992 arcade machine.
This takes your right back to the arcade, the animations the music the horrible written dialogue. Welcome to Die!! and Master of Magnet are my 2 favourite lines from the game. Along with Xavier shouting "Xmen Xmen" every time we meet. Makes for a very nice nostalgia game.
I loved every min of it....that's right every minute. Its not very long, especially since you can beat the game in under 25 min. They include 2 versions of the game, the japan and the US. They are pretty much the same except the japan has power ups.
Honestly what I got out of the game are the memories of what it was like to play it with 6 other people and battle all the way to the end and spend and entire weeks worth of allowance in one 10 min sitting. So you play with up to 6 other people online and 4 people local. Its great fun and for me it was worth the money.
For for somebody who isn't familiar with this game and don't really care that its the x-men. I would probable tell you to wait, and buy it when it goes on sale for $5 bucks. There just not alot here, no bonuses (which they could have done something) and not much replay value. I've played it a couple of times with friends on my list and its fun the first few times.
But I think that this is what this game is meant to be all about. Jump in for a quick round with friends and then move on to something else.
What's crazy are the leaderboards. If you check them out you can see one guy at the top with 9999 points for each of the 6 characters. To give you idea of what this person must have done to achieve this. He spend between 5-6 hrs per character maxing out the score. Meaning once his game ended he kept repeating the same levels over and over again for 5-6 hrs. That's beating the game 6-8 times in a row. I can honestly say that I had my fill beating it once, twice was tolerable and a 3rd is a no go.
So some people love it, a fan like myself enjoyed and for all others. Wait for it to go on sale if you never heard or played this game. Its good, but not $10 good.
Remember when Kinect came out and they said that Microsoft is finally bringing a device that will appeal to hardcore gamers. I guess they were half right, hardcore is what they meant.
So a third person party is developing a 3D porn simulation from Thri'sXXX that will rely on gestures, spoken word and in game devices.
Its funny to read what the guy of the game says" The Kinect is obviously a natural technology for this kind of usage". Of course.... we all knew that the next step from playing with animals on our TV went to feeling up and having sex with a virtual lady. While we stand in our living room with our pants down around ankles thrusting into thin air.We all know where this is going....next there will be physical attachments to accompany these games.
Cause like the guy said, its OBVIOUS that the Kinect was meant for this. I don't know how Microsoft feels about all this. Especially if they are going after a large part of the Wii family causal gamer and then for its consumers to know that its associated with Porn games.
Come on Sony....get with it, all the cool kids are doing it. So I guess that's it then...this will give gaming a new meaning when you say, " I beat it".
So this power washing company is using megaman as a mascot. Can they do that? Can I start my own plumbing company and have Mario on the side of my truck telling people how great my plumbing skills are?
And why Canadian water? what does that even mean? The only thing I can think of are people who are stupid enough to beleive that us Canadians have superior water for power washing. In fact our water is so clean up here we can literally drink our own piss 3 times before it becomes toxic.
Thanks to Game Fudge for posting this. I am reposting cause I think this is a great idea and everyone should give it a try. The Humble Indie Bundle are offering 5 games for free and for Charity - Is there a catch? maybe - but its a good catch.
They are leaving it up to the person downloading if they want to pay for these games. Not just pay to the developers of Indie games but to tell them how much to give to charity. So if you want to pay $10 you can say, $5 goes to the developers and $5 goes to Charity. To give you an idea of how much you are getting for free. Its $85 worth of great games for however much you want to give.
Its a great cause and great deal. Its deals like this that shows that the smaller developers are thinking smart and showing the love back to the gamer. So lets do our part and show some love back.
Don't be a douche and only pay 0.01 cents for this.
I was never a fan of storm in any of the previous fighting games. I could never control her, her kicks and punches always seemed to miss their mark. A little higher and lower than what the others hit at. Viper is pretty cool, but we just seen her recently in the rebooted SF franchise, I think they could have chosen someone better. I think they gave her bigger boobs.
More details have come out regarding the release of the new Mortal Kombat game this 2011. There are going to be 2 special edition version each with its own list of goodies. To figurines, DLC, avatars, concept art to the PS3 getting a Kratos as a playable character. I'm sure they will come out with a playable character exclusive to the Xbox 360 aswell, but nothing so far.
Even the sellers are jumping in by offering consumers pre-order bonuses if they buy from them.
GameStop: Classic Scorpion Playable Character Skin and the original Scorpion Fatality.
Best Buy: Classic Sub-Zero Playable Character Skin and the original Sub-Zero Fatality.
Amazon: Classic Reptile Playable Character Skin and the original Reptile Fatality
I wonder if you buy the game regular how much will you have to pay for these extras? But it is interesting and a little worrying. Just like Street Fighter selling us all these extra costumes, I see the same thing happening here.
Please allow me a bit of geeking out. I've been rambling a lot online and in real life about U3. But here's a first look at gameplay (besides the brief flashes in the trailer).
And it's a year away, so I'll shut up about it for a while after this.
It terms of difficulty of getting this platinum, it wasn't any easier or harder than the first game. The hardest thing that you will have to do in this game is beat it on crushing mode. And boy do they ever mean crushing.
I have the same complaint with this game that I had with the first one and that is the cover system. It works fine on normal and hard. But holy moly does it ever screw you big time on crushing mode. You cannot make any mistakes when jumping from cover to cover or running and rolling to safety. COUNTLESS times I died because I meant to jump over a block and instead he took cover in front of it _ IN THE DIRECTION OF THE GUN FIRE. Which results in death.
You can take one full frontal barrage of gun fire then you have to duck and hide. Make your head shots count, pick your targets and prioritize their treat level and respond appropriately. I died alot, and I mean alot when it came to the gun fight battles. You really have to strategize how you are going to defeat a group of enemies. Which adds a whole new level to gameplay and its this reason that I really like playing on crushing mode. You just can't run and a take cover and start shooting randomly at enemies - You will DIE!!
Other than that, the other trophies are pretty easy. The only other one that wasn't hard, but just a pain in the ass was fine all the treasures, all 100 of them. (click here for a list of videos showing you where to find them if you stuck) What I dislike the most in any game is item hunting, blarg. But this game finally rewards you like the games used to do in the past. SPOILER - When you get all the treasures you unlock Genghis Khan as a Multiplayer skin. Getting Platinum in the game unlocks Marco Polo as a Multiplayer skin. So at least they give you something in game for your troubles this time around. End Spoiler
Besides find 100 of these boring things, all the trophies were pretty fun to get and I didn't feel bored trying to get them. It was enjoyable and playing on crushing although was challenging and even frustrating at times was a real treat for anyone looking to test themselves.
Like Borderlands game of the year, I also picked up the Uncharted 2 game of the year for $39.99. It comes with over $35 worth of DLC but in my opinion the DLC is only for big fans of the series. There was nothing that added to the single player experience like Borderlands did. It was all multiplayer based stuff.
What you get are new skins for multiplayer, new maps, avatars for your psn and motion comics and if you own a PSP you get Uncharted Pinball. So for me, there was nothing extra that I really wanted. Sure if I was big into the multiplayer aspect of Uncharted and played it alot then the new skins and maps would be a welcome change. But I tried the multiplayer and its ok, nothing spectacular, I prefer my FPS over the 3rd person shooters when it comes to online play.
What I got in the end when I finally finished the game was this,"Yeah, it was a good game, it looks amazing, good story....I just don't like that particular genre of games - The treasure hunter games." Its all personal preference at this point. I am just not a fan of tomb raideresque jumping and climbing raiders of the lost ark type games. ( I do like the Indiana Jones movies though)
The same can be said for any tomb raider, Indiana Jones dungeon/jungle hunter. This game makes me scared to play Metal Gear Solid on the PS3, sheesh if everyone is saying that game is more movie than game and I think Uncharted is a little too much movie for me. Then clicking triangle to progress a movie along while disguising it as some game doesn't appeal to me.
Perhaps I'm being to harsh on it, IT IS a good/great game. I just don't like the genre, plain and simple. Its because of this final play through of Uncharted 2 this will be the last in its series that I play. Uncharted 3 will forever more sit on the store shelf.
To add to Darryl's post, I have a few games myself (in addition to Arkham Asylum 2) that I am looking forward too and that have been given trailers. :)
Uncharted 3. I'm so excited about it. But we'll have to wait at least a year, according to the trailer! Waaaah!
So there were a bunch of trailers from the VGA's and honestly that's all most people care about. What games are coming out in the near future. Here are the ones that I am excited for. Sorry that they are all from Game trailers, but they seem to have the rights for them for a couple days before we see them everywhere.
Batman looks spectacular, but I don't want to see too much of it. My biggest letdown of the last game was knowing all the villians that were going to be in the game.
I still don't know much of what the game is about or what the gameplay is. But wow, Flower was a beautiful fun game, so I have lots of faith in this one.
The art direction alone is special enough to warrant a look from me.
This first video doesn't make me want to play WOW, infact it makes me want to do everything opposite what this guy is saying.
This is how I feel when I eat cheese...I feel your pain dude.
Then there is my good friend Francis. I posted videos of him before. Francis is just a character he plays regarding his WOW playtime. He's a real funny and nice guy. FRANCIS IS NOT REAL.
Then there are people with way too much time on their hands they feel that they must make their games into movies.
Then there is the classic Mr Leroy Jenkins, a king among men. If you ever saw a pic of Leroy Jenkins, I did for one did picture him looking like a skinny white kid.
Here is another (they call it a trailer) but I call it more teaser stuff since we are never shown anything about the ingame stuff. I want to know what the heck this game is about. Game Trailers also have a a video apparently, but I can't get it to work. But its suppose to show some gameplay. Poop on a stick.
Another gaming blog called Game Fudge are doing their own Best/Worst of Games of 2010. One of those categories is called Best Worst Game which is Deadly Premonition. I remember seeing this in the store but never gave it any more consideration than that.
After watching the video that Game Fudge posted of the some ingame cut scenes...I think my brain went,"cheque please".
This game is possibly one of the most bizarre pieces of cut scenes I have ever seen. To the music, the dialogue to the main FBI guy who is constantly rocking back and fourth like someone from a mental institution while he talks about sandwiches. Down to Mr Rhymes alot in a white suit. I don't know what to make of it. It hurts my brain to try and even understand what the developers were even trying to do.
Its like a dream that someone would have and wake up the next day and say" I had the weirdest dream last night, I was a FBI agent who was ordering a lunch and was interrupted by a man in a white suit who rhymed everything to me with his boss who sat in a wheel chair with a gas mask arguing with me that I should try the turkey, strawberry cereal sandwich. He wouldn't leave me alone until I tried it"
I must play this game, that's all their is too it. For if I don't, its too.....hard...to chew it?....I guess I am not as good rhymer as the guys in the game. Thanks Game Fudge!!
I come to the conclusion I will not have enough money to buy all the DLC games I want come Christmas. There is at least one sometimes 2 games that come out every week that I wouldn't mind ponying up $10 for. A $14.99 considers a little more thought, but most games that are that do tend to be worth it.
X-men aracde is no exception, it has a release date for Xbox live on Dec 15 and PSN has no release date at this time. Why? I have no idea, doesn't make sense to me.
Other than that it will have 4 player local and 6 player online along with online leaderboards. I don't care too much about online leader boards. But this makes me happy....and sad. This is what happens when you don't buy games for 2 months.
Yesterday on a whim I decided to look into OnLive.
I've been hearing about it in passing.
The signup is free and you only pay for games you want to play. And they offer free trial, so I figured "why not?".
It's actually pretty impressive! The streaming was very good and the quality as well. A little on the blurry side, so I figure it would look better on TV. I wonder what resolution the stream at.
The installation was lightning fast and loading the games as well.
I tried a trial for Mafia II. The game looked great and handled nicely. The only problem is that I hadn't played games on the computer for a long time so getting used to the keyboard wasn't easy. If I did get it, I would either get a computer controller or get the OnLive controller for the TV.
Their game library isn't that big right now, but they have a lot of high end names and will be adding more soon. I can see this taking off. I can see the potential!
You can also watch other players's brag clips or actually playing.
I played the first Gran Turismo for the PS1 and I thought what everyone else thought, this game looks amazing. It was the racing game to be reckoned with, if you were going to play a racing game then it was the GT series that you had to do it with.
But this was back in the day when smooth looking graphics were becoming all the rage and anything that looked close to CG animation was viewed as awe inspiring. Today, graphics are pretty much standard, meaning they all look pretty good. So for me a game as to be more than just pretty for it to hold merit. I am a guy who is perfectly happy playing 8 bit games.
Yeah it took 5 years to make and it has a 1000 cars and looks slick with customization up the wazoo..........I just don't care enough about car games.(UNLESS- they shoot missiles and lasers and I can ram people with my front end spikes)
I listened to a podcast the other day where they spent 1 hr and 38 min talking about how great GT5 was. You know that enthusiastic tone when somebody is trying to convey how great something was? Well not even 3 guys like that could make GT5 sound even remotely interesting -For ME.
Cause when it comes down to it, its not that GT5 is a bad game. All the reviews are pretty positive, but I just don't like racing car games.
To give an idea of how I feel about this, here is a scenario that happens to me regularly.I have 2 groups of friends, one that have the same interest as me and we talk about video games and other things of similar nature and then the others who talk shop -to be specific mechanical shop. We get together in a garage and they can spend a whole night talking about what part they used on what machine and where they found it, what they had to do to install it, how it compares to other parts, vehicles, jobs, etc. During these times my brain checks out, I stand around with I guess, some expression on my face. I really don't know since I find the conversation about as interesting as watching paint dry.
This is how I feel about this game, my brain turns off and goes in search of its happy place. Now if they came out with a Twisted Gran Turismo, then we get a little light goes on....ding ding ding.
Here's a EXCITING video of shop talk- for me its just as interesting as watching a GT5 video. Not even the entertaining weirdo is able to sell me on how fun it is to repair my car.
I always enjoy concept art or even fan art of video games. I find it interesting to see different takes on a franchise that is already so well developed.
Thanks to Ian (Rowan) for showing me these. I don't know anything about them, if its just some random art by some guy or if these are shots of whats maybe to come? Either way, they are pretty spectacular!
